Cash and carry stores change their stock daily, and items are available on a “first come, first-served” basis.

Maximum transaction amount for Visa, Mastercard and American Express purchases is $2000.00. All purchases must be paid for in full before removal from the premises.

Auctions

The Government of Alberta uses different types of auctions to sell its surplus items.

When the Government of Alberta has surplus items, it can sell these goods through online and public auctions.

Online auctions

Government of Alberta surplus goods can be sold through the Alberta Online Auctions.

This service allows you to bid on surplus goods online from anywhere at any time.

You can bid on surplus items such as:

  • furniture
  • vehicles
  • office equipment
  • laboratory and medical equipment
  • recreational goods
  • and more

Payment

Unless otherwise indicated in the auction, payments can be made by:

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • American Express
  • Visa Debit

All online payments are completely secure.

Public auctions

The Government of Alberta uses public auctions to sell surplus items when conditions are right.

Surplus Sales sends some items to auctioneers for sale at locations in Alberta as required. Auction companies conduct the sales from their locations and promote them through websites, auction flyers, or in local newspapers.

Items sold in these auctions include:

  • vehicles
  • household and office furniture
  • miscellaneous equipment

Payment

The auctioneer conducting the sale establishes acceptable methods of payments. Potential bidders should be aware of the method of payment by contacting the auction company.

Public tenders

Government of Alberta surplus items may be sold through public tenders if required.

Certain types of equipment, due to size, location, or specialized nature may be put up for sale by public tenders. This may include:

  • vehicles
  • buildings
  • park equipment
  • building materials/equipment
  • specialized equipment

We list the details of items for sale on Invitation to Tender forms, which includes information on:

  • location
  • viewing
  • contact persons
  • closing dates
  • special conditions

Invitation to Tender forms must be received at the appropriate Surplus Sales office by the closing date for the bid to be considered.

Successful bidders are contacted by phone or email.

Invitation to Tender forms are also available at the Calgary and Edmonton sales outlets.

Certified cheques or money orders are to be payable to the Government of Alberta.
